If Dar al-Hijrah mosque funds terrorists, who funds Dar al-Hijrah?

February 17, 2010

Frank Gaffney made quite a splash with his recent article about a fundraiser being held at the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church, Virginia, on behalf of terrorist Sabri Benkhala.  Not just because it’s a fundraiser for the legal expenses of a terrorist, but because this is the same mosque where some of the 9/11 hijackers worshipped and where Anwar al-Awlaki, the imam who OK’d the Ft. Hood shooting, preached.

Gaffney did a great job explaining everything about the fundraiser and the mosque’s terrifying history, so check out his article.

By way of adding to the background he provided, I wanted to research just how Dar al-Hijra was built in the first place.  The results are utterly unsurprising.  The Sperry Files documents who owns the mosque:

Fairfax County, Virginia, property records reveal Muslim activist Jamalal-Barzinji authorized the development of the Dar al-Hijrah mosque, where some of the 9/11 hijackers received aid and comfort. The U.S. government has accused Barzinji of being “closely associated” with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hamas and other terrorist organizations. Records also show the Saudi-affiliated North American Islamic Trust holds the deed to the Wahhabi mosque (emphasis mine). Barzinji is listed as a NAIT trustee on the document.

Part of a Saudi waqf outlay, no doubt.  Naturally, the mosque is also funded by local zakat (see the numerous solicitations on their website here).
